Breakfast » French Toast
Ingredients
- 4 thick slices good quality bread (brioche or challah recommended)
- 4 eggs
- ¼ - ½ cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp butter
Suggested Toppings
- maple syrup, blueberries or favorite fruits, powdered sugar, jams or jellies, pecans or walnuts
How-to
- Add the eggs to a large bowl and break up the yolks with a fork or whisk
- Add milk, vanilla and cinnamon. Mix with a fork or whisk just to bring ingredients together
- Melt butter in a heavy-bottom pan. When the butter starts to bubble, dip one slice of bread at a time into the egg mixture, letting the extra custard run off. Place no more than 2 slices of bread in the pan at a time. Cook 3-4 minutes per side until bread starts to brown
- Serve warm with maple syrup, blueberries or your favorite toppings
Lynne
Lynne is passionate about food which can be attributed to the fact that she was fortunate enough to grow up with a mother who was an incredible cook, a father who grew a garden that was the envy of the neighborhood and 6 siblings who all love to eat! Lynne is a second-generation American. Her grandparents are all from Portugal and the traditions and food of this country have had a big influence on her and inspired her to learn about other cultures and their food.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, late night after-party meal, French Toast should be in your cooking repertoire. An easy-to-assemble custard, fragrant with cinnamon and vanilla, works best with thick slices of brioche or challah but Lynne tells us, in a pinch, sandwich bread will do just fine. Top with pure maple syrup, fresh berries, and you're done. Simple yet very satisfying. That's French Toast.
