Tex-Mex chef extraordinaire Amanda Escamilla shows a simple, traditional guacamole of ripe avocado, tomato, onion, cilantro and lime juice. Like spicy? Tailor the recipe to your taste and add chopped chiles, if desired. Watch Amanda's great trick for removing the avocado pit!
Makes about 1½ cups
Ingredients
- 2-3 ripened avocados
- 2-4 tbsp diced tomato
- ¼ cup diced onion
- 2 tbsp chopped cilantro
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- salt to taste
- pepper to taste
- chopped serrano or jalapeño chiles (optional)
How-to
- Scoop avocados into a bowl and roughly mash with a fork or masher to desired consistency
- Fold in tomato, onion, cilantro, lime juice, salt and pepper (plus chopped chiles if you desire an extra kick!)
- Serve immediately, or refrigerate, covered tightly until serving
