Crispy, crumbly, warm and sweet. This is one Fall classic that can't be beat. Sarah shows us her quick and easy recipe for this delicious apple treat and demonstrates some cool kitchen gadgets that make peeling and coring the apples and making the crumb topping a lot easier. Add a scoop of French vanilla ice cream, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy.

With a full time job as a Physician Assistant in the emergency room of a Southeastern Massachusetts community hospital and a husband and beautiful baby girl at home, Sarah relies on her many kitchen gadgets to make her cooking and baking more efficient and fun!

Recipe

Ingredients

Serves 6
Filling

  • 5 cups apples all-purpose apples, peeled, cored &sliced
  • 2 tsp flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup water

Topping

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter, softened and cut into pads
  • 1/8 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp baking soda

Special Equipment: 8”x8” baking pan

How-to

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Food process the topping ingredients minus the butter
  3. Pulse in softened butter
  4. Spread apple filling into greased 8x8” pan
  5. Cover with topping
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 40 minutes
