Pecan Tarts

Anne has been making these pecan tarts for years. If they aren't on her table when guests arrive, the first question asked is, "What happened to the pecan tarts?" Everything Anne makes is beautifully presented and she's always sure to pack up a few for you to take home.

Pecan Tarts

Anne has been making these pecan tarts for years. If they aren't on her table when guests arrive, the first question asked is, "What happened to the pecan tarts?" Everything Anne makes is beautifully presented and she's always sure to pack up a few for you to take home.

About Anne Motta

Anne is yet another amazing Renaissance woman we've met. She is an expert cake decorator who has made countless elaborate wedding cakes and birthday cakes over the years. She also can do more things than we have room to mention, but here are a few: make jam, braid rugs, cane chairs, sew, crochet, make chocolate, bake cookies from scratch, garden...the list goes on and on. And she does them all with great attention to detail, incredible skill and, of course, the most important thing, love.

Recipe

Ingredients

Makes 24 Pecan Tarts

For the Shells

  • 3 oz cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1 cup flour

For the Filling

  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • dash of salt
  • 1 tbsp softened butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup chopped pecans
  • 24 whole pecans

Special Equipment

  • mini-muffin tins

How-to

Make the Shells

  1. Mix the cream cheese and butter
  2. Mix in the flour
  3. Chill in refrigerator for 1 hour
  4. Make about 2 dozen 1" balls
  5. Press against sides of ungreased muffin tins to form shells

Prepare the Filling & Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 325º
  2. Beat 1 egg and add 3/4 cup brown sugar, a dash of salt, 1 tbsp softened butter, 1 tsp vanilla and 1/3 cup chopped pecans
  3. Distribute mixture evenly into the tart shells
  4. Top each tart with a whole pecan
  5. Bake for 25 minutes

Anne's Serving Suggestion

  • Place pecan tarts in liners (optional) on a round plate covered with a doily.  Makes a beautiful presentation!

Warm, gooey, and oh so good! The best thing is they are bite size so you can have 2 or 3 and not feel so guilty! That is if there are 2 or 3 around to have. They go QUICK! (Dec 17, 2008 4:35:04 PM)

I love this recipe, it's so easy to make and very tasty. Great to take to a party, it makes a nice presentation. I especially like seeing the videos and knowing how it should look, much easier than reading a recipe. (Dec 12, 2008 8:33:57 PM)
