St~Germain Cocktail

St~Germain, an elderflower liqueur, is taking the world by storm. It is a huge crowd pleaser, with notes of pear, grapefruit and peach. Very refreshing simply served as demonstrated in this video with sparkling wine and lemon or in a number of other cocktail applications like sangria. About Rob Cooper

Rob is a third generation distiller who fell in love with the flavor of elderflower at a bar in London. He then set out to make the first and only elderflower liqueur and created St~Germain, a delightfully refreshing liqueur with notes of pear, peach and grapefruit zest. Rob has done a great service for those looking to expand their cocktail repertoire. We salute him!

Recipe

Ingredients

For 1 Cocktail

  • 2 oz brut (very dry) sparkling wine, champagne* or dry white wine**
  • 1½ oz St-Germain
  • 2 oz sparkling water or club soda
  • ice
  • lemon peel

Special Equipment

  • highball or Collins glass

For a Carafe (Serves 4-6)

  • 12 oz brut (very dry) sparkling wine, champagne* or dry white wine**
  • 9 oz St-Germain
  • 12 oz sparkling water or club soda
  • ice
  • 4-6 lemon peels

* prosecco or Cava

** preferably Sauvignon Blanc

How-to

For 1 Cocktail

  1. Fill a tall glass to the top with ice. Add sparkling wine, St-Germain and sparkling water
  2. Slice a strip of lemon peel, squeeze to release its oils into the glass, then place peel into glass
  3. Stir, mixing completely, the prescribed 13½ times

For a Carafe

  1. Gently pour sparkling wine into a carafe, add sparkling water or club soda, top with St-Germain and stir gently
  2. Slowly pour into glasses filled to the top with ice
  3. Slice one strip of lemon peel per glass, squeeze to release its oils into the glass, then place peel into glass
