The rules are simple for a perfect margarita. Rule #1: Start with an ice-cold glass. Rule #2: Don't use a mix. Rule #3: Shake it. Hard. Vigorously. For a long time. Seriously. And enjoy the best margarita ever.
Adam Lantheaume is the proprietor of The Boston Shaker in Somerville, MA. One of his goals is to provide information, tools and ingredients to experienced and novice home bartenders in a comfortable, non-intimidating way. He believes that too often folks shy away from making cocktails for themselves and their guests because it feels overly-complicated or cumbersome, but just like cooking, a little experience goes a long way and in no time people can be treating themselves to their favorite cocktails. It's about enjoying the preparation as much as one would enjoy the final product. To learn more about Adam and The Boston Shaker, visit www.thebostonshaker.com

If you're used to mixes or this traditional preparation is too tart for you, try adding Agave Nectar (found at good grocery stores), simple syrup or sugar to up the sweetness. Using a straw taste the cocktail from the shaker (you can cap it - see the Pisco Sour video for an example), add sweetener if needed, then re-shake to mix. (May 22, 2009 4:04:03 PM)
I have to admit I'm a cheater when it comes to margaritas, and have always relied on mixes - this looks pretty easy and DELICIOUS. Can't wait to try it! (May 21, 2009 5:39:20 PM)
