Our favorite "health strategist, real food advocate, raw milk drinker, trained chef, lactofermentation/pickling instructor, software engineer and urban bicyclist," Alex Lewin, makes a spicy coleslaw he named "Cortido Americano." It's a tangy mix of shredded vegetables with a bit of a kick from jalapeños. Alex offers suggestions for optional ingredients too of apple and oregano. Serve with meats and fish, and piled high in sandwiches or wraps. Great tasting and good for you too.

Alex found his way into the culinary field by way of math and finance. A lifelong love of food and Anthony Bourdain's book, Kitchen Confidential, pointed him in the right direction. He attended the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts but still stayed in finance. After doing work related to funding sustainable technology businesses and reading Wild Fermentation by Sandor Ellix Katz, he was hooked.
