About Dick

Dick is an avid recreational fisherman. When we say avid, we're not kidding. This guy goes quahogging on Cape Cod year-round. Yes, that includes the winter. But we're not complaining because we get to enjoy the fruits of his labor. Dick is the real deal. A little rough around the edges but warm as a summer day inside.

How-to

You'll need:

  • shell-fishing license from Town Hall
  • gauge
  • basket
  • rake

Wardens patrol the dig sites - Have your license and gauge with you at all times.

  1. Check with Town Hall (on site or online) for open and closed locations. Quahog season runs all year except when too cold
  2. Pick a spot and drag your rake about 3-4 inches deep (in colder weather about 6 inches deep)
  3. If you don't feel anything, keep moving until you find a spot.  (You'll get to know the difference between a rock and a quahog)
  4. Dig and drag rake towards your body, using your legs and shoulder
  5. Use your gauge - quahogs must be at least 1 inch thick
