Entrees » Grilled Spamwich w/ Pineapple Relish
Jason Bacon knows his canned ham. He fires up the grill and sears off thick slices of Spam as a sweet pineapple-maple-cola sauce reduces in a heatproof pot only inches away. Within minutes, the Spam and sauce are complete. Next, they make a pit stop at a hot dog bun where they are adorned with crushed pineapple, honey mustard, sliced tomato and a drizzle of the sweet sauce. Hawaii consumes the most Spam in the United States. We can't say we blame them here. Aloha.
Ingredients
For Spamwich
- 1 can Spam, sliced ½" thick
- hotdog rolls or burger buns
- sliced tomato
- honey mustard
For Sauce & Relish
- 14.4 oz can crushed pineapple, juice drained & fruit reserved
- 1 oz cola
- 3 tbsp maple syrup
How-to
- Preheat grill to medium-high heat
- Open the can of Spam and slice into ½" thick slices (you may have to run a knife along the outside to loosen the Spam)
- Place on grill and cook 4-5 minutes per side
- Meanwhile, in a heatproof pot, add pineapple juice (drained from the canned, crushed pineapple), cola and maple syrup. Allow this to heat and reduce on the grill, 6-8 minutes
- When finished, remove Spam from grill and place in hotdog rolls or hamburger buns. Add tomato slices, honey mustard, and spoonfuls of the reduced sauce
