Dessert & Baked Goods Spritz Cookies

Spritz Cookies

These adorable Spritz Cookies come from Jane's catalog of goodies. Sugar cookies are raised to a new level with the decorative design of a cookie press and the addition of colorful maraschino cherries. They'll look so pretty on your table but probably won't stay there very long. We know that once the word is out that "Jane made cookies!" it's first come-first serve and then they're gone!

About Jane Chiarelli

To give you an idea of what a warm, lovely person Jane is, she had freshly baked cookies and coffee made for us when we came to her house to shoot her Meatball video. Jane loves to cook and considers it a pleasure not a chore to cook for her family every day. I hope they realize how lucky they are!

Recipe

Ingredients

Makes 3 dozen cookies

  • 1 cup butter
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2¼ cup flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • dash salt
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • maraschino cherries, cut in half

How-to

  1. Preheat oven to 375°
  2. In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream butter and sugar
  3. Add egg & beat well
  4. Add flour, baking powder, salt & almond extract and mix well
  5. Fill a cookie press with dough and press out shapes on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat
  6. Add half a maraschino cherry to each cookie and bake at 375° for about 8-10 minutes, keeping an eye on them so they don't burn, until edges are golden brown

yep. i made them. i had a bit of a different press than is used in the video but it seemed to work out well. i just had to be careful to not press too much dough out otherwise it lost its shape. also when you bake them, you really have to watch how long they are in there for b/c a few of mine came out a bit crispy on the bottom.
