Beverages » Grapefruit Cosmo
Dave Anastasi introduces us to an ethereal-looking version of the well-known cosmopolitan. This pink grapefruit version uses Dave's own Grapefruit Vodka, a creation he infuses over 7-14 days. He gives this a hearty shake with cranberry and lime juice and a touch of triple sec. Gorgeous, refreshing, and we think the home-made infused vodka is brilliant!
Ingredients
Grapefruit Vodka* (make 1-2 weeks before use)
- 1 liter (about 4 cups) vodka
- 1 pink grapefruit
For Grapefruit Cosmo
- ice cubes
- 2 oz Grapefruit Vodka* (or 2 oz regular vodka + ½ oz grapefruit juice)
- 1 oz cranberry juice
- ¾ oz triple sec
- ½ oz freshly-squeezed lime juice
- grapefruit peel for garnish
Equipment for Grapefruit Vodka
- vegetable peeler
- large glass container
- fine-mesh strainer
- bottles with lids for storing
Equipment for Grapefruit Cosmo
- chilled cocktail glass
- cocktail shaker
How-to
Make Grapefruit Vodka
- Using a sharp knife or vegetable peeler, remove the outer peel from a grapefruit, avoiding the white pith, and place the peels in a 1 liter glass container
- Cut the grapefruit into sections, and remove the flesh from the pith
- Slice the fruit into large chunks and place into the glass container
- Pour the vodka into the container, covering the fruit and peel
- Cover the container and store in a cool, dark place for 7-14 days, starting to taste at 7 days
- When satisfied with the strength of the mixture, pass through a fine-mesh strainer or coffee filter into a bottle or vessel of choice
- It is suggested to store the vodka in the refrigerator to preserve the flavor of the grapefruit, but it can also be kept at room temperature
Make Grapefruit Cosmo
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice
- Add vodka, cranberry juice, triple sec and lime juice
- Cap and shake vigorously
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass
- Garnish with a twist of grapefruit peel
