Making whipped cream is easy and nowhere is it tastier than over warm gingerbread. When cinnamon, allspice and ginger hit the heat, the aroma will take you back to when you were a kid, waiting in the kitchen to get that first piece of gingerbread, piled high with fresh whipped cream.
Ingredients
- 1 cup boiling water
- ½ cup butter
- ½ cup molasses
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 1½ cups flour
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ¾ tsp powdered ginger
- ¾ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp allspice
- nutmeg for grating
Special Equipment
- 8x8" or 9x9" baking pan
- mixer
Whipped Cream
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
How-to
- Preheat oven to 350°
- Cream butter, molasses and sugar together
- Mix dry ingredients separately and fold into wet ingredients. Add boiling water and stir until mixed
- (Note: The batter will be very runny when pouring it into cake pan) Pour into greased and floured pan. Bake for 30 minutes
- Cool and serve with whipped cream on top and a quick grate of fresh nutmeg
Make Whipped Cream
- With a mixer, whip cream until almost stiff
- Add sugar and vanilla and continue to whip until it forms stiff peaks
