- 1 cup apple cider
- 3-4 cinnamon sticks
- 5-7 star anise
- about 20 whole allspice berries
- 1 apple, chopped
- ½ cup dried cranberries
- ¼ cup triple sec
- 1 magnum of red wine plus 1 regular-sized bottle red wine
Somewhere in between a traditional sangria and mulled cider lies this creative beverage created for how2heroes by Personal Chef JJ Gonson. Rather than use citrus fruits, JJ opts for apples and dried cranberries. Let it sit in the refrigerator for about 6-8 hours before serving for best results. Well worth the wait!

A big hit at my Christmas gathering this year. We used to drink this stuff called Hot Wassal, made with cinnamon and apple juice. This recipe reminded me of that holiday tradition. Having chilled wine instead of the hot cider was refreshing on the palette. (Jan 5, 2009 10:59:44 AM)
This Sangria was so good. The cider really gives it a really nice smooth flavor. (Dec 17, 2008 3:40:48 PM)
I loved JJ's new approach with using apples and cranberries instead of citrus fruits! it gave the sangria a great flavor, and utilized the fruits that are fresh and in-season! I will be making this for chrismas :) (Dec 17, 2008 10:25:22 AM)
