House Special Rice in Lotus Leaf


  • 1 dried lotus leaf

Other Ingredients - All Amounts Are To Taste

  • long-grain rice, cooked per package instructions
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of MSG (monosodium glutamate - used to intensify flavors)
  • pinch of chicken bouillon powder
  • pinch of pepper
  • maki seasoning (or soy sauce), to taste
  • sesame oil
  • celery, chopped
  • cooked ham, chopped
  • hard boiled egg, chopped


  1. Soak lotus leaf in water for a few hours, then dry until soft and pliable and set aside
  2. In a bowl of cooked rice, add salt, MSG, chicken bouillon powder, pepper, maki seasoning and sesame oil and massage ingredients into the rice
  3. Add celery, ham, hard-boiled egg and mix to incorporate all ingredients
  4. Scoop a tightly packed bowl of the rice mixture and place in the center of the lotus leaf
  5. Fold, wrap and roll the lotus leaf tightly
  6. Place lotus leaf packet on steamer, seam side down, and steam over boiling water for 15 minutes
  7. Cut lotus leaf open (careful of hot steam) and serve
