Dominican Arroz con Leche (Rice Pudding)


  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 cup rice
  • 14 oz evaporated milk
  • 14 oz condensed milk
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • ground cinnamon


  1. In a heavy-bottomed pan, combine water, cinnamon sticks & salt and bring to a boil
  2. Add the soaked rice, stir and cook over medium heat until the rice softens, about 18 minutes. If necessary, add more water until the rice is softened and cooked through
  3. Add evaporated milk then condensed milk and stir to combine. Add butter and as it begins to melt, turn off the heat and continue to mix until incorporated
  4. Finish with a dash of cinnamon and serve
