Buttermilk Pie

Serves 8


  • 1-1¼ cups sugar
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 9" pie shell
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract


  1. Preheat oven to 350°
  2. Using a mixer or by hand, cream butter, sugar and eggs until combined
  3. Add buttermilk and stir to combine
  4. Gradually add flour and continue to mix until flour has been fully incorporated
  5. Add vanilla extract and continue to mix 
  6. Pour filling into pie crust and bake until golden brown and set, 40-45 minutes. The pie will still show movement in the center, but will firm after cooling
  7. Allow pie to cool completely on wire rack before serving
