Vanilla Bean Gin Julep
Ingredients
Vanilla Bean Syrup*
- 1 vanilla bean
 - 2 cups sugar
 - 2 cups water
 
Gin Julep
- 6 mint leaves + sprig for garnish
 - 2 oz gin
 - ½ oz Vanilla Bean Syrup*
 - ice cubes + shaved ice
 - ½ oz of soda water
 
Special Equipment
- muddler
 - jigger
 - cocktail shaker + strainer
 - ice crusher
 - cocktail straw
 
How-to
Make Vanilla Bean Syrup
- Slice the vanilla bean tin half. Scoop out inside paste and set aside
 - Make simple syrup by bringing 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of water to a boil
 - Add vanilla bean paste to the simple syrup mixture; strain into a bottle for ease of use
 
Make Cocktail
- In the glass of a cocktail shaker, add mint leaves and dry muddle to release flavor
 - Add gin and the Vanilla Bean Syrup
 - Fill glass with ice cubes; add shaker top and give a vigorous shake
 - Add crushed ice to a highball glass and soda water
 - Strain cocktail from shaker into the glass. Garnish with a sprig of mint. Add a straw and give a slight stir; ready to serve
