Vanilla Bean Gin Julep


Vanilla Bean Syrup*

  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water

Gin Julep

  • 6 mint leaves + sprig for garnish
  • 2 oz gin
  • ½ oz Vanilla Bean Syrup*
  • ice cubes + shaved ice
  • ½ oz of soda water

Special Equipment

  • muddler
  • jigger
  • cocktail shaker + strainer
  • ice crusher
  • cocktail straw


Make Vanilla Bean Syrup

  1. Slice the vanilla bean tin half. Scoop out inside paste and set aside
  2. Make simple syrup by bringing 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of water to a boil
  3. Add vanilla bean paste to the simple syrup mixture; strain into a bottle for ease of use

Make Cocktail

  1. In the glass of a cocktail shaker, add mint leaves and dry muddle to release flavor
  2. Add gin and the Vanilla Bean Syrup
  3. Fill glass with ice cubes; add shaker top and give a vigorous shake
  4. Add crushed ice to a highball glass and soda water
  5. Strain cocktail from shaker into the glass. Garnish with a sprig of mint. Add a straw and give a slight stir; ready to serve
