Makes 1 Cocktail

Ingredients

Cinnamon Syrup*

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2-3 cinnamon sticks, broken or crushed

Cocktail

  • 6-8 sage leaves (reserve 1 leaf for garnish)
  • 1 oz Cinnamon Syrup*
  • ¾ oz blood orange juice
  • ¼ oz lemon juice
  • 1½ oz tequila (Herradura suggested)
  • 1 dash Peychaud's bitters
  • ice

How-to

Make Cinnamon Syrup

  1. Assure that cinnamon sticks are broken (or crushed)
  2. Combine in a saucepan with 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water
  3. Bring to just under a boil over medium-high heat (this may take 5-10 minutes), then reduce the heat and let simmer for 5-10 minutes
  4. Remove from the heat and let cool
  5. Strain and bottle. Store in the refrigerator. Will last refrigerated for 1-2 months

Make Cocktail  

  1. Add sage leaves, cooled Cinnamon Syrup*, blood orange juice, lemon juice, tequila and bitters to cocktail shaker
  2. Fill with ice, cover and shake well
  3. Double-strain into a cocktail glass. Rim the glass with a fresh sage leaf and add to the glass if desired for garnish
